Welcome to Kitty Tales
Back in June 2010 marked the beginning of an incredible journey. Kitty Tales is a way to help us document our journey in rescuing a feral cat family in hopes that others will be inspired to help feral communities in their area. The feral cat family we helped last summer into late fall consisted of 5 kittens and 2 adult cats. At the end of our journey we decided to adopted one of the kittens and have collected lots of information that we wish to share with others.
There is a nationwide problem with feral and stray cat communities. The best thing for any cat owner to do is spay and neuter their cats. Kitty Tales will continue to collect information in regards on how you can help feral cats in the D.C Washington metro area and within Southern Maryland. Cats are expected to have their first litter as early as March and as late as November. Cats can have up to 3 to 8 kittens in one litter and can have three to perhaps five litters in one year. This depends on the environment and food resource. If a cat has a reliable food resource the number of kittens a female cat will have in a year will be higher then a female who has an unreliable food resource.
This site was developed to honor the memory of our first rescue. A kitten named Sherlock who was barley 4 weeks when he passed away. Because of him the rest of his family was saved and adopted into loving homes. Kitty Tales hopes to continue to help educate people and rescues about Feral Cats in our community and how we can all help this fight to end animal cruelty.
